House price inflation over the last five years has caused significant difficulties in achieving access to the housing market for many households. It has also created difficulties for employers in both recruiting and retaining personnel, with a particular emphasis on key workers in service industries in both public and private sectors.
As programmes are developed to provide subsidy support it is important to have specific data rather than anecdotal evidence on the types of households who could be assisted and what their particular housing requirements are, by tenure, house type, size and location.
We incorporate an identification of key workers and their place of work within all our housing needs survey questionnaires from which we can cross-tabulate data to draw out specific issues relating to the needs of these key people in the local economy.
DCA have conducted a number of specific studies on the housing needs of key workers incorporating questionnaires to both employers and employees in the public services. Studies have been conducted for individual local authorities and for Hertfordshire County Council assessing needs in all ten Boroughs in the County. Recently we have been appointed to conduct a Key Worker Study & Assessment for Hampshire County Council.
